Question
Answer
Action to What We Learned

05-05-2023 11:55 AM   The value of the relationship with the procurement director was critical in getting this award. We would not have gotten the award without Ross giving us some leeway. We need to make sure we are having no less than quarterly meetings with Ross and his team to maintain that relationship. Owned by Tim and SE.

05-05-2023 11:55 AM
Walmart prioritizes self-performers and we need to have a plan to overcome those preferences.

05-05-2023 11:55 AM   The volume of trades that they awarded correlated directly with the volume-based discount that we offered. An award of 1,000 trades, we would give 5% and they gave slightly over that number. Next time let's be more aggressive on the ask.
05-05-2023 11:55 AM   Walmart is giving a lot of feedback on weed control which was not included in the SoW. We need to include it in pricing because they are still expecting weed control. In general SoW was written vaguely so be careful on those traps.
05-05-2023 11:55 AM   Relative to land, the more limited SoW we can sign, the more beneficial to DMG, due to the door being opened to ad hoc business. Mow/Blow/and Go is preferred for DMG then up selling non-routine work.
05-05-2023 11:55 AM   Pressure washing – try to nail down what is spec’d/costed from field. Prioritize more next time because it bit us this time. INCLUDE MINIMUMS.
05-05-2023 11:55 AM   Walmart's field team has a vote on this. Important for Team Leads and AMs to maintain these relationships as it will help us be awarded more business in the future.
05-05-2023 11:55 AM   Alf and Mercer had the largest awards for land. DMG was the biggest winner for lot and pressure washing. They are self-performers. Alf doesn’t self-perform in half of their markets but they have Walmart convinced that they do.
05-05-2023 11:55 AM   It was obvious that our specs were wrong, which resulted in pricing being out of line. Next steps are to use the new tool to verify all Walmart specs before the release of future RFPs. Also collaborating to create baseline pricing for all trades in advance of RFP releasing.

05-05-2023 11:55 AM   Clear ownership of action items with clear deadlines needed on future RFPs
05-09-2023 10:10 AM   win reasons:
Relationships with the Director of Procurement that gave us additional opportunities to improve our pricing
Relationships with the trade team who helped to influence the decision
Strong relationships with the field team who insisted on have DMG within their territory

When you bring additional fields into a conversion, Quickbase often finds inconsistencies. For example, say you're converting your Companies column into its own table. One company, Acme Corporation, has offices in New York, Dallas and Portland. So, when you add the City column to the conversion, Quickbase finds three different locations for Acme. A single value in the column you're converting can only match one value in any additional field. Quickbase needs you to clean up the extra cities before it can create your new table. To do so, you have one of two choices:

  • If you want to create three separate Acme records (Acme-New York, Acme-Dallas and Acme-Portland) click the Conform link at the top of the column.
  • If the dissimilar entries are mistakes (say Acme only has one office in New York and the other locations are data-entry errors) go back into your table and correct the inconsistencies—in this case, changing all locations to New York. Then try the conversion again.

Read more about converting a column into a table.
